This was another private commission, which I saw as an opportunity to diversify my writing by trying my hand at some new genres, sci-fi and western. I also got to try some new tools by designing a universe map using an online system a friend had developed and needed playtesting.
I had no experience of the series firefly or the film serenity before writing this campaign, but found a rich narrative world which had not been widely explored (sadly the series was cancelled after one season). This left me a lot of creative freedom when creating the plot for this commission.
For the game mechanics, the client wanted to use the existing tabletop system. I found this to be very easy to work within and it presented a new mechanic, which I would later adapt for the Chosen Pirate game. The ship the crew travel on in this system is treated like a character, with players able to put their personal Exp into upgrades and resources required to keep flying.
