I have often wondered why there are so few horror games that feature a fairground or carnival. They are one of those places that become very eerie at night, or when left abandoned. This is because they are places that we often experience when they are full of people. When you remove the noise and crowds, they feel like haunted husks of their daytime selves. If you’ve ever been in a school alone at night for example, you may recognise this feeling.

Research for this game was unique and very interesting, as I delved into how theme parks and rides are designed. I was delighted to discover how much narrative design and sociological and psychological concepts are utilized during the designing process, and I even visited a few for my masters research. A lot of the level design for this game actually ended up in the final project for my masters, and I really hope I get to use this research in future games.
